The Legal Profession is a noble profession. An Advocate is a respectable person in the society. He is an officer of the Court, helping in the administration of justice. It is, therefore, important that an advocate must keep up the dignity and decorum of the legal profession by his good conduct and good behaviour. The Advocates Act, 1961 and the Bar Council of India Rules 1975 prescribe Professional Ethics, which are to be scrupulously and strictly followed by advocates. In this Book, the Professional Ethicsof advocates has been presented in the form of essays in simple language so that students of law can easily understand, remember and practice in their legal profession. In addition, the provisions of the Contempt of Court Act, 1971, have been presented in essay form so that one can easily understand what acts do and do not constitute Contempt of Courtand what are the punishments for them. The selected judgments of the Supreme Court and the selected opinions of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council of India on Professional Misconduct have been briefed for practical understanding and application of the Advocates Act, 1961.We fervently hope that this book will fully cater to the needs of law students preparing for any examination of Professional Ethics.
